Apple has finally released its highly-anticipated Emoji Game exclusively to its News+ subscribers in the United States and Canada. The game was initially announced at WWDC earlier this year, but it has now become available for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users running iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, or macOS 15.4 or later.
As expected, the Emoji Game is a unique take on traditional word games like Wordle. Instead of typing in words, players will fill in the blanks with emojis to complete phrases. This new twist adds an extra layer of creativity and challenge to the game, as users must think outside the box to come up with the correct solution.
The game also utilizes Apple’s custom Genmoji, which are created using its advanced AI technology. These special emojis can be used to help players solve the puzzles and complete phrases. Each round of the game requires users to fill in three phrases, and they have the option to reveal clues baked into the phrases. However, this will use up one of their limited moves.
News+ subscribers can access the Emoji Game through the Puzzles section of the Apple News app. Later this year, the game will also be available as part of a dedicated Apple Games app. To play, users must have an active subscription to Apple’s News+ service, which costs $13 per month. In addition to exclusive games like the Emoji Game, subscribers get access to a range of other content, including magazines and newspapers, audio stories, regional publications, daily puzzles, and more.
The release of the Emoji Game is a significant development in the world of mobile gaming, and we’re excited to see how players will respond to this innovative new game.
