Bruce Springsteen to Receive Legacy Award and Perform at 2025 Motion Picture Academy Museum Gala
Rock legend Bruce Springsteen will receive the inaugural Legacy Award and perform at the fifth annual Academy Museum Gala, presented by The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. The event is set to take place on October 18 in Los Angeles.
The Legacy Award honors artists whose body of work has inspired generations of storytellers and profoundly influenced our culture. This prestigious honor recognizes Springsteen’s immense contributions to music and his impact on the creative industry.
As a renowned musician, Springsteen has won numerous accolades, including an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1994 for “Streets of Philadelphia” from Jonathan Demme’s film of the same name. He also received nominations for “Dead Man Walking” from Tim Robbins’ Dead Man Walking two years later.
In addition to Springsteen’s Legacy Award and performance, the evening will also pay tribute to other notable honorees. These individuals have made significant global impacts in their respective fields and embody the spirit of innovative storytelling that the Academy Museum represents.
Penélope Cruz, a Spanish actress, will be honored with an Icon Award. This honor celebrates an artist whose career has had a profound influence on popular culture. Cruz won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2009 for Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
Brazilian director Walter Salles will receive the Luminary Award, which recognizes artists who have expanded the creative possibilities of their respective mediums. Salles is known for his work in film, having directed multiple projects including The Motorcycle Diaries and On the Line.
Comedian and actor Bowen Yang will also be recognized with a Vantage Award, which acknowledges emerging artists whose innovative work challenges dominant narratives within the industry.
