Google Just Made Gmail Better, But You Need A Different Address
Google is on a roll with Gmail, upgrading the world’s most popular email platform with a raft of AI-powered uplifts that give its 2 billion users some serious decisions to make as they balance privacy and convenience. The latest update does not solve Gmail’s main problem.
The new update has been universally praised for adding an unsubscribe button and backend process for marketing emails. And rightly so – who wouldn’t want a simple way to dispatch spam to the trash folder? However, this is merely a Band-Aid on a deeper issue. Google has a solution waiting in the wings, which enables users to easily create email aliases instead of supplying their real addresses when asked online.
We’re talking Shielded Email, Google’s answer to Apple’s excellent Hide My Email offering. This allows users to supply email addresses that can be deleted once it becomes apparent they’re driving a mass of unwanted spam towards them.
