Beyoncé and Jay-Z Have Competed in Same Category at Grammys 6 Times
It’s a battle of the power couple as Queen Bey and Jigga, aka Jay-Z, are set to go head-to-head at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards. The news comes as a surprise, considering their impressive track record of competing against each other at the Grammy Awards.
To put it mildly, Beyoncé and Jay-Z have developed an impressive habit of vying for the same award multiple times over the years. In fact, they’ve already clashed six times in the past – a feat that’s left fans utterly bewildered.
The pair first entered the fray in 2004 when their respective tracks, “Crazy in Love” and “Frontin’,” were pitted against each other for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. The result? Beyoncé emerged victorious with her solo debut single.
Fast-forward to 2006, Jay-Z linked up with Linkin Park for a collab track titled “Numb/Encore,” which ultimately took home the award.
As we all know by now, the dynamic duo went toe-to-toe again in 2008 when Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable” battled Rihanna’s “Umbrella,” which featured Jay-Z. Yes, that is correct – Jay was a part of two competing projects in this category!
In 2010, things got intense as they fought for the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration prize once more, with Beyoncé’s “Ego” (feat. Kanye West) going up against Jay-Z’s “Run This Town” featuring Rihanna and ‘Ye.
Four years later, in 2014, the couple clashed again – this time in the Song of the Year category with tracks “Part II (On the Run)” and “Holy Grail.” Unfortunately for Beyoncé fans, DJ Khaled secured the win with his hit track.
It’s worth noting that when Jay-Z was a solo artist, he failed to secure a single Grammy Award. However, it’s safe to say his collaboration with Beyoncé on “Part II (On the Run)” did not go unnoticed.
In 2023, we witnessed another round of competition as they clashed once more in the Song of the Year category. Unbelievably, Bonnie Raitt took home the award for her track “Just Like That.”
At this point, it’s safe to say that Beyoncé and Jay-Z have mastered the art of competing at the highest level – and we’re thrilled to see their rivalry continue in the upcoming Emmy Awards!
