TikTok is Adding Features for Songwriters to Its App
In a move aimed at empowering creators in the music industry, TikTok has announced that it will be introducing new features for songwriters on its platform. The social media giant revealed that these features, which are currently rolling out in beta, will enable songwriters to showcase their musical works and build their profiles within the app.
As part of this update, users will have access to a “Songwriter” label, allowing them to highlight their creative work alongside their own content. Additionally, a new tab has been added to their profile page, which will give them a dedicated space to share their music and connect with potential clients. This move is expected to significantly enhance the user experience for songwriters on TikTok.
TikTok’s Global Head of Music Publishing Licensing and Partnership emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting songwriters, stating that they are driven by a desire to celebrate and elevate these talented individuals within the app. According to the platform, over 870 songwriters took part in a survey to help inform the development of these new features, with an independent survey indicating that more than half of all songwriters use social media platforms like TikTok to raise their profile and build their audience.
Notably, other music streaming services have also taken steps to support songwriter rights. Spotify has been offering features for years that allow creators to highlight their work, while Tidal launched a tool for tracking royalties and managing credits earlier this year.
TikTok’s new features, while significant in themselves, are also notable given the platform’s shift away from music streaming with the discontinue of TikTok Music last year. Despite this, the app remains an essential destination for users to discover new music and for artists to promote their work.
