Nintendo Launches Another Switch Online Test Program for 40,000 Players
In a surprise move, Nintendo has announced a new Playtest Program, inviting a massive 40,000 participants to test its latest Switch Online feature. This is a significant increase from the initial program, which only accepted 10,000 applicants.
The new program requires that participants be at least 18 years old and have a registered Nintendo account in one of the supported regions, including Japan, United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Canada, Brazil, or Mexico. Users can either sign up individually or join forces with up to three other people whose data will be shared partially.
The testing process is designed for Switch Online + Expansion Pack members and now supports both the original Switch and the new Switch 2 device. Nintendo has not revealed any information about what the test involves, only stating that it will be a “test of the same service” previously tested in October 2024.
It’s worth noting that the company chose participants in Japan via raffle and accepted others on a first-come-first-served basis. The application period for the program has already started and will close on July 21 at 11:00 AM Eastern time.
Although Nintendo hasn’t provided details about the activities testers will be doing, previous testing sessions have hinted that the focus might be on building structures using blocks in a Minecraft-like game. This is further reinforced by the option to apply as a group, allowing users to collaborate with others in the shared world.
Interested individuals can submit their applications starting today, July 18 at 6:00 PM Eastern time.
