will.i.am Talks “East LA” Roots with Taboo in New Single
In a recent interview, will.i.am sat down to discuss his latest single, which brings him back to his roots in East Los Angeles. The new song features longtime collaborator and fellow Black Eyed Peas member, Taboo.
The hip-hop mogul explains that he wanted to use this solo project as an opportunity to showcase the city where he was born and raised. He says that revisiting old unreleased material allowed him to put out music without being beholden to anyone else’s creative vision. “I got like three albums coming, three albums worth,” will.i.am shared. “That’s just me by myself.”
As a proud native of Boyle Heights, East Los Angeles, will.i.am is determined to show love and appreciation for the community that has had such a profound impact on his life and career. He acknowledges the current immigration issues plaguing the nation, stating, “I was born and raised where my mom is raised. I just wanted to flip that particular part of the song that says ‘East LA’ and build around East LA, especially now with all that’s happening with immigration issues and people that I grew up with, their parents, their kids, threatened, worried, anxiety.”
The artist also touched on his involvement in an after-school program, which focuses on teaching computer science, robotics, and college prep to underprivileged youth. The initiative has seen the success of over 1000 students graduating from the program.
The new single featuring Taboo is now available for streaming and we can’t wait to dive deeper into this fresh music.
