Benchmark in talks to lead Series A for Greptile, valuing AI-code reviewer at $180M, sources say
Greptile, an AI-powered code review startup, is reportedly in discussions with Benchmark to secure a Series A funding round, which would value the company at approximately $180 million. According to sources familiar with the deal, the investment would be led by Benchmark partner Eric Vishria and amount to $30 million.
Founded by Dasksh Gupta after he graduated from Georgia Tech in 2023, Greptile went through Y Combinator’s winter 2024 cohort and subsequently raised a $4 million seed round led by Initialized Capital. In an earlier interview with TechCrunch, Gupta emphasized that the AI-powered code review bot his company developed acts as an experienced coworker, capable of understanding the customer’s code in depth, thereby pinpointing bugs and potential issues that human reviewers might miss.
The code review space is highly competitive, with prominent rivals including Graphite, which secured a $52 million Series B led by Accel with participation from Anthropic’s Anthology Fund, Menlo Ventures, and others. In response to this intense competition, Greptile has required its staff to work exceptionally long hours, with employees typically working from 9 am until 11 pm, including Saturdays, and sometimes Sundays.
The intense pressure on the team was publicly disclosed in a post by Gupta on X, stating that Greptile “offers no work-life-balance.” The CEO later explained in an interview with Inc. that exceeding competitors demands maximum effort from every team member, saying, “No one cares about the third-best company, or even the second-best company in any category in software. If you’re going to put in 95 percent effort, it’s the equivalent of putting in 0 percent effort.”
While the terms of the deal have not been officially confirmed by Greptile and Benchmark, the potential investment could be a significant boost for the startup as it continues its growth trajectory.
