Subaru has just unveiled its latest electric vehicle (EV), the Uncharted, which boasts a substantial 300 miles of range and an impressive 338 horsepower. This marks the company’s third foray into the EV market.
As reported by our sources, the Uncharted will come in two variants – both featuring 74.7kWh batteries. The first is a front-wheel drive model with 228 horsepower, which is suitable for daily driving and should have no issues covering the promised range of 300 miles. The second iteration is a dual-motor four-wheel drive version, delivering an eye-catching 338 horsepower and 290 miles of range. This more potent trim will be available in Sport and GT configurations.
It’s worth noting that these specifications closely mirror those of Toyota’s CH-R EV, which shares the same E-TNGA platform as the Uncharted. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, given Subaru’s partnership with Toyota. The similarities don’t stop there; both vehicles also feature identical charging times (0-80% in under 30 minutes) and Tesla-style NACS charging ports for Supercharger access.
Visually, the Uncharted is essentially a carbon copy of the CH-R EV. The design language is near-identical, with only slight variations to the headlight arrangement and front-end styling. Even the interior shares many commonalities with its Toyota counterpart – including an Android Auto/CarPlay-enabled 14-inch infotainment screen and wireless phone charging capabilities.
A notable departure from Tesla’s EVs is the inclusion of manual controls for various functions, a move that will likely resonate with drivers who prefer to maintain a sense of connection with their vehicle.
Pricing details have not been shared by Subaru at this time. However, if we extrapolate from the CH-R EV’s starting price of $35,000, it’s possible that the Uncharted may follow suit. It would be an impressive offering for those in the market for a more affordable electric option.
The Uncharted is set to hit the roads sometime next year, alongside Subaru’s other upcoming EV, the Trailseeker, which bears some resemblance to the Outback. The Solterra – the company’s first and only EV at this point – has been on the market for three years now.
