CoinDCX Offers $11 Million Bounty After Lazarus Group-Linked $44 Million Heist
North Korean hackers linked to the $44 million CoinDCX breach
The $44 million exploit targeting India-based crypto exchange CoinDCX has been linked to North Korea’s notorious hacking group, Lazarus Group. This revelation comes amidst a massive Ethereum and Solana-based heist, which involved using cross-chain bridges and Tornado Cash to conceal fund movements.
As reported by CryptoSlate, Deddy Lavid, CEO of Cyvers, noted that the attack pattern resembled previous Lazarus operations, further solidifying the connection between the two entities. Additionally, the sophistication of the attack, including unauthorized access to internal accounts, demonstrates a high level of coordination and expertise.
In response to this unprecedented breach, CoinDCX has issued an $11 million bounty for any information leading to the recovery of stolen assets. According to Sumit Gupta, CEO of CoinDCX, this initiative aims to incentivize white-hat hackers, researchers, and blockchain firms to collaborate in tracking and retrieving the pilfered funds.
Furthermore, Gupta emphasized that the company will cover the loss from its corporate treasury, reiterating that user funds were unaffected.
