Disney World is shutting down a part of its ‘Star Wars’ experience.
Walt Disney World has announced that it will be closing down Star Wars Launch Bay in order to make way for a brand new attraction themed around Disney Animation. The news follows the conclusion of Muppet*Vision 3-D and the temporary closure of the courtyard, which is set to undergo renovation as part of the construction for the forthcoming Monsters Inc. Monstropolis area.
Star Wars Launch Bay has been a staple in Tomorrowland since its opening in 2015, but it’s hard to deny that once Galaxy’s Edge opened, its usefulness had come to an end. The attraction served as a curated Lucasfilm memorabilia exhibit with character meet-and-greets. However, given the immersive nature of Galaxy’s Edge, there was no longer a need for this specific area.
On the other hand, the closure of Star Wars Launch Bay opens the door for Disney Animation Experience. This new addition will serve as homage to the “Hollywood” part of Hollywood Studios. When the park first opened as Disney MGM Studios, it featured areas where guests could get a glimpse into film production.
