Lucid Air owners will be able to use Tesla Superchargers from July 31
As of July 31, the wait is finally over for Lucid Air sedan owners. As part of a previously reached agreement, they will now have access to Tesla’s vast network of Supercharger stations across North America. This move aims to provide an added layer of convenience and charging options for these luxury EV owners.
While this development may be met with excitement by some, it is essential to note that the Lucid Air vehicles are not compatible with Tesla’s Supercharger network in the same way as Tesla vehicles themselves. The main limitation here lies in the vehicle’s 924-volt charging system, which unfortunately does not align with Tesla’s own 400V charging stations.
As a result, Lucid Air owners will only be able to charge their vehicles at a maximum rate of 50 kW when using these Supercharger stations. This is a far cry from the whopping 250 kW peak rates that are typically offered by Tesla Superchargers. Despite this limitation, Lucid has emphasized that this development still offers an additional option for its owners who find themselves in need of rapid charging on the go.
Lucid’s integrated Wunderbox system has been repurposed to make this charging compatibility possible, with a specific adapter costing $220 needed to facilitate the connection between the two companies’ respective charging systems.
