AI-Related Job Postings On The Rise
As technology continues to evolve at a rapid pace, it has become clear that AI-related job postings are on the rise. Over the past year alone, there was an increase of over 100% in these types of job postings.
This growth is not surprising considering the increased demand for AI expertise as companies seek to integrate this technology into their workflows. In fact, according to a recent report from the Brookings Institution, AI job growth has been outpacing that of the general economy at an average annual rate of nearly 29% over the past 15 years.
But what kind of AI jobs are we seeing? According to Elena Magrini, global head of research at Lightcast, these roles range from advanced AI-specific positions like AI engineers to more general AI-related positions such as software developers. In fact, in 2025, there were over 80,000 job postings that mentioned generative AI skills.
One area where we’re seeing significant growth is in consulting jobs aimed at helping businesses integrate AI into their workflow. This has led to an increase in the number of consulting job postings. Additionally, job postings relating to so-called “responsible AI” jobs, which focus on the ethical use of AI tools in business and society, are also on the rise.
Interestingly, these AI positions tend to be associated with higher salaries. In fact, a separate report from Lightcast found that job postings that mention AI skills pay an average of 28% or $18,000 more per year than job postings for similar roles that don’t require AI skills.
Now let’s talk about where we’re seeing these jobs grow the most. According to the data from Lightcast, it’s no surprise that tech hubs like Silicon Valley are driving this growth. In fact, the San Francisco area accounts for 13% of all AI-related job postings, while Seattle accounts for a further 7%.
However, it’s not just the tech industry where we’re seeing this growth – other parts of the country, including the Sunbelt, which stretches from the Southeast and Southwest and along the east coast between Boston and Washington D.C., are also seeing an increase in these types of job postings.
Another area where we’re seeing AI job growth is within universities. This is because these institutions play a significant role in developing talent bases and training students in computer science.
