The Netflix ‘Untamed’ Ending Explained: Who Killed Who, And Why?
As I reflect on my recent experience with Untamed, the murder mystery starring Eric Bana, it’s essential to delve into the climax of this captivating series. Spoilers follow for those who haven’t had a chance to finish the show yet.
For your convenience, let me guide you through the intricate plot and reveal the identities of the killers and their motives.
Firstly, Paul Souter, the local ranger chief, is responsible for Lucy Cook’s demise. In an unexpected twist, it emerges that Lucy was actually Souter’s secret daughter, whom he had given away to foster care years prior due to his guilt over the situation. She returns with a vengeance, seeking financial compensation and threatening to expose his marriage. When Paul tries to reason with her, she refuses to back down, prompting him to shoot her in the leg to prevent her from escaping further. Despite this attempt to calm her down, Lucy succumbs to blood loss and takes an intentional fall off the cliff, ultimately meeting her demise.
Following this event, the drug gang responsible for the mines is accountable for the deaths of the bait shop kid and the squatter. As they sought to eliminate potential witnesses who could incriminate them in their illegal activities, it’s clear that Lucy’s murder was not part of their operation. The gang also didn’t touch Lucy due to her role as a runner for their organization.
A more intriguing aspect unfolds when we discover that Jill (Kyle’s ex-wife) and Shane (a local wildlife culler) jointly murdered Sean Sanderson. This revelation revolves around the dark past of Sanderson, who had been missing in the park for five years after abducting and killing his son Caleb as captured on Shane’s wildlife cameras. Kyle wished to see justice served by having Sanderson arrested and prosecuted, but Jill preferred a more subtle approach: eliminate him. Shane carried out the deed, with the trio agreeing to keep their actions concealed from others.
In the final act of the series, Naya (deputy ranger) eliminates Shane when he attempts to kill Kyle due to his newfound awareness of their involvement in Sean Sanderson’s demise.
