Chinese AI Leaders Form Alliances to Counter U.S. Chip Curbs
In a bold move to strengthen its domestic technology capabilities, China’s top AI firms have formed two new alliances aimed at reducing reliance on US-made Nvidia chips and fostering a sovereign AI ecosystem. The initiative is seen as a strategic response to the ongoing US-China chip curbs.
The Model-Chip Ecosystem Innovation Alliance and the Shanghai General Chamber of Commerce AI Committee were launched during the three-day World Artificial Intelligence Conference, which concluded on July 28, 2025. Top Chinese technology companies like Huawei, Biren, Moore Threads, SenseTime, Enflame, and StepFun showcased their innovative projects and innovations at the event.
The newly formed alliances aim to bridge the gap between AI model developers and chipmakers in China. This move is a significant step towards creating a self-sufficient AI industry domestically. The collaboration will integrate the entire AI value chain from chip production to model deployment and promote industrial adoption of AI technologies.
China has accelerated its efforts to develop indigenous chip designs and AI models following US restrictions on advanced AI chips and related technologies.
