A number of the UK’s most exciting indie-rock acts have joined forces for a charity compilation set to give a boost to the local grassroots music scene. The 24-track album, titled “A Hideous Collective”, will raise funds for the Music Venues Trust and the U.K. Artist Touring Fund.
The compilation is curated by Brighton-based band Opus Kink, who also contribute a track to the collection. It features Mercury Prize winners English Teacher alongside other notable acts such as Wunderhorse, Nova Twins, Matt Maltese, Katy J Pearson, and Lambrini Girls.
Each act has donated an exclusive recording, remix, demo, or live version for the compilation, which is being released on vinyl and CD only. A portion of the sales will benefit independent record stores Rough Trade (London, Bristol, Liverpool, Nottingham), Resident (Brighton), Piccadilly Records (Manchester), Norman (Leeds) and Crash (Leeds).
The initiative comes as a response to the crisis faced by UK’s grassroots music scene, with over 150 venues closing since 2023 due to financial challenges following the COVID-19 pandemic and the cost of living crisis.
