YouTube has started testing a new collaboration feature, similar to Instagram’s and TikTok’s, allowing creators to add other accounts to their videos. The test is currently only available to a small group of creators, but the platform plans to expand its availability in the future.
According to Google employee statements on YouTube Help, this experimental feature will enable creators to recommend collaborators to each other’s audiences. This means that by adding collaborators to their video content, creators can gain exposure to new viewers and potentially grow their following.
In a screenshot posted by influencer marketing consultant Lindsey Gamble, it appears that the collaboration feature would display collaborators’ names alongside the creator’s name on their channel. If there are too many collaborators, they will be listed as “…and more” with a Subscribe button available next to each collaborator’s name. The image also suggests that tapping on this text will show a list of all individuals involved in the project.
It is likely that the creator who uploads the content will need to invite another account to collaborate, which would then require approval from the invited user to ensure that creators don’t randomly add other users to their videos. However, it remains unclear whether collaborators can access information typically reserved for the uploader’s eyes.
As with any experimental YouTube and Google product, feedback from testers will be crucial in determining whether this feature is widely released.
