SMS Scammers Target Hungarian Binance Users
As the cryptocurrency and major platform sectors have become increasingly mainstream, they are no longer just confined to traditional financial sectors. Unfortunately, fraudulent activities have also emerged in these areas. Phone scams, which have been a common phenomenon in traditional finance for years, have recently made their way into the crypto world as well.
The Binance, being an especially targeted platform, has had numerous instances where users were attacked by scammers via SMS this year alone. In March, for example, scammers used spoofing to change the displayed phone number on the victim’s screen. The phishing text appeared in the official messaging flow of Binance, making it difficult to distinguish between legitimate and fraudulent messages.
According to reports, the scams involved attackers claiming they had accessed the user’s account from North Korea and urged them to transfer their funds to a designated “security wallet” for safety reasons. In reality, this was just another ruse by scammers to gain access to users’ private data.
It is essential that we exercise extreme caution when dealing with any suspicious messages or links sent via SMS. We must be aware of these tactics and educate ourselves on how to identify such scams.
The European Union’s increasing focus on cryptocurrency and blockchain technology has not only led to mainstream acceptance but also the rise of new fraudulent activities.
