TTRPG Comic ‘Die’ Returns for Another Session
Gizmodo – August 9, 2025
In a shocking twist, comic book writer Kieron Gillen and artist Stephanie Hans have teamed up once more to bring fans another installment of the popular TTRPG (Tabletop Role-Playing Game) inspired “Die” series. The latest offering, titled ‘Die: Loaded,’ promises a completely different dynamic compared to its original counterpart.
According to reports, the upcoming sequel will take place a year after the events of the first comic and will follow surviving party members as they try to live normal lives after escaping the fantasy world known as “the game.” However, it seems their newfound peace won’t last for long, as Gillen revealed that the tagline for the new series is âtrying to play again.â This ominous warning hints at a fresh start, but with more danger and excitement.
Moreover, Gillen has emphasized in an interview with Rascal founder Lin Codega (and io9 alum) that “Die: Loaded” will focus on exploring the culture of tabletop gaming. The comic series is expected to delve into themes such as game culture, specifically highlighting some strong con culture satire. Fans can also look forward to a refreshing new take on the concept.
The creators have also announced an update to the RPG’s quickstart version that will come packaged with the first issue of ‘Die: Loaded.’ This revised and updated version is expected to include pregenerated characters representing different Paragon classes, giving players even more creative freedom. In addition, Gillen hinted at an open license for the game in the near future, allowing designers to create their own supplements and adventures using Die RPG’s mechanical engine.
Lastly, Gillen mentioned that he plans on incorporating material from the comic into the actual game if it âgets working to my satisfaction.â This could potentially bring a whole new level of interactivity between the two mediums.
‘Die: Loaded’ is scheduled for release on November 12th and fans are eagerly anticipating the next chapter in this groundbreaking series.
