Ethereum Dev Claims Turkish Authorities Accused Him of Assisting Others in Misusing the ETH Blockchain
A prominent Ethereum developer has come forward with a shocking claim, stating that Turkish authorities have accused him of aiding others in misusing the Ethereum blockchain network. The developer, known pseudonymously as “Fede’s Intern,” is currently detained in Izmir, Turkey.
According to his statement on X, he was accused by Turkey’s Minister of Interior of facilitating the misuse of the ETH blockchain and has been confined to a room since. In response, the developer has maintained that he and his associates are merely infrastructure builders with transparent global operations, spanning across Europe and collaborations with governments in over 10 countries.
The detained Ethereum dev emphasized that his companies are not involved in any illicit activity and are ready to cooperate with Turkish authorities or any government agency. He also hinted at potentially contesting the allegations from abroad.
It is essential to note that Turkey has recently strengthened its oversight of the crypto sector, implementing stricter Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations. This includes the requirement for user identification on transactions exceeding 15,000 TRY and the authority given to the Capital Markets Board (CMB) to regulate crypto asset service providers.
This situation raises concerns about the potential implications for the Ethereum community, particularly with Istanbul having been floated as a potential location for DevCon 2026.
