Balenciaga’s Music Director Says Goodbye: BFRND on His Britney Spears Collaboration, Sade Clearance and How He’ll ‘Build an Identity’ at His Next Gig
BFRND, Balenciaga’s music director since 2017, has stepped down from the role he largely created. In his final act with the fashion house, BFRND left a lasting impact on the industry by reworking the boundaries of music in fashion.
As the closing event for Demna’s final presentation as Balenciaga’s creative director, BFRND’s recent work included a remix of Britney Spears’ “Gimme More” for the spring 2025 collection. The collaboration with Britney and her team was a first for both the singer and the fashion house.
“I knew I had to rework something that defines sexy for a majority of people – and no one else than Britney can do that,” BFRND explained, emphasizing his decision to align the aesthetic of the line with the remix. The outcome was an unexpected yet captivating performance by Spears, which sparked immense interest from fans worldwide.
In addition to this groundbreaking collaboration, BFRND has also achieved another major milestone – clearing Sade’s “No Ordinary Love” for use in a fashion show for the first time. This significant accomplishment demonstrates his ability to push the limits of what is considered acceptable and further solidifies his position as a visionary in the industry.
Before moving on from Balenciaga, BFRND has already begun brainstorming ways to continue shaping the intersection of music and fashion at his next gig, which he will be taking with him to Gucci.
