He advises owners of older vehicles with boot-mounted spare wheels to fit additional locking bolts and park their cars in a way that restricts access to the rear.

The report highlights that car manufacturers are now including Thatcham-certified locking mechanisms as mandatory on all new UK cars. This new requirement is part of the efforts by the industry to combat theft and increase overall vehicle safety.
