Dolly Parton Apologizes for Missing IAAPA Dollywood Hall of Fame Induction Amid Health Challenges: ‘I Sure Wish I Could Be With You’
Country icon Dolly Parton has issued a heartfelt apology for missing the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) gathering, where her beloved theme park, Dollywood, was inducted into the organization’s prestigious Hall of Fame.
Parton, 79, sent a video message to attendees on Monday, expressing regret for not being able to attend the event in person. The apology comes amidst ongoing health challenges that have kept her confined at home for the past month.
“I sure wish I could be with you,” Parton said in the emotional message, dressed in a bedazzled light blue jumpsuit and looking vibrant while seated in front of a blue backdrop alongside a vase of white flowers. She acknowledged that her doctors have advised her to “take it easy for just a little while” as she continues her treatment.
Parton praised her partners at Dollywood, thanking them for their dedication and loyalty over the past 40 years. The singer reflected on the park’s early days, recalling when she first conceptualized the idea of creating an amusement park in Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains where her family could perform, provide stable employment opportunities to local residents, and serve as a family-friendly entertainment destination.
“I peeked out the window of my bus on opening day and saw all those cars lined up,” Parton fondly recalled, highlighting the theme park’s enduring success. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you for this honor.”
She extended her gratitude to everyone involved in making Dollywood a reality, as well as her friends and partners who work tirelessly to create magical experiences for families worldwide.
The induction marks a historic milestone for Parton, as she becomes only the second woman to be recognized by IAAPA on her own, cementing her place among the organization’s 100-year history alongside other female inductees.
Parton was unable to attend Sunday night’s (Nov. 16) Governors Awards ceremony, where she would have accepted the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, due to her ongoing health issues.
