Lost Luggage? Share Your AirTag Location With These Airlines
In a move aimed at improving lost luggage tracking, Apple has introduced a new feature that allows users to share their AirTag location with airlines. This innovative update enables passengers to provide real-time updates on the whereabouts of their missing bags, increasing the chances of them being returned.
To take advantage of this development, travelers can open the Find My app, select “Items,” click on the relevant AirTag, and choose the option to share its location under “Lost AirTag.” They will then be presented with a link that can be copied and sent to airlines or other parties who may be helping in the search.
For now, three major carriers have agreed to participate in this new system: United Airlines, Delta Airlines, and Air Canada. However, it’s important to note that Apple has hinted at adding more airlines to its roster in the near future.
While sharing an AirTag location is not a guarantee that luggage will be returned, it does provide a valuable tool for passengers to collaborate with airline representatives in the search process. The new feature also offers a significant improvement over the previous method of sending screenshots to show where a lost item was located, which can quickly become outdated as it’s being shared.
It’s worth noting that Apple has not given up on its AirTag hardware despite some concerns about privacy following a report by Tom Brewster revealing the device’s potential for invasion.
