**Title:** A whirlwind of international travel for IEEE
As I conclude my tenure as the IEEE President, I wanted to share with you a recent trip that took me across the globe and into various esteemed institutions. It was an incredible experience, and I’m thrilled to recount it in this article.
Firstly, I’d like to highlight the importance of these trips, which not only serve as a representation of the organization but also foster connections with our global community. In my role, it’s essential for me to engage with members worldwide, support regional activities, and recognize outstanding achievements within the IEEE network.
**Singapore and Japan**
My journey began in Singapore and Japan, where I attended various conferences, meetings, and collaborations with esteemed experts and academics. It was an enlightening experience that deepened my understanding of our organization’s global impact and its members’ commitment to advancing knowledge.
**New Jersey, USA – A Special Award Ceremony**
Next, I traveled to New Jersey, USA, for a special award ceremony in which I presented the Charles Proteus Steinmetz award to Gary Hoffman. This was a unique honor that allowed me to engage with esteemed individuals within our community and recognize their invaluable contributions.
**San Francisco, USA – Another Round of Awards**
Following my time in New Jersey, I headed to San Francisco for the IEEE Standards event, where I gave out multiple technical field awards. The significance of these events cannot be overstated; by recognizing exceptional achievements in various fields, we strengthen our network and inspire future innovators.
**Bologna and Milan, Italy – A Lasting Legacy**
My final leg of travel took me to Bologna and Milan, Italy. During this trip, I had the privilege of presenting an IEEE Technical Field Award at the IEEE Conference on Decision and Control in Milan. This was a momentous occasion that allowed me to connect with esteemed experts from around the globe.
The Italian leg of my journey also involved speaking at the Italian Academy of Science, where I discussed the importance of our organization’s work on sustainability efforts for data centers and digital storage technologies. It was an enriching experience that allowed me to engage with young minds in academia and encourage them to pursue their passions.
**Reflections**
As I conclude this chapter of my tenure as IEEE President, I’m filled with gratitude for the incredible experiences I’ve had. From recognizing outstanding achievements to fostering connections and promoting the values of our organization, these trips have been an invaluable opportunity for me to strengthen ties across the globe.
