Intel Announces Major Free Processor Performance Updates: Get Them Now
In a surprise move, Intel has announced significant free processor performance updates for its Core Ultra 200 Arrow Lake processors. Released in October, the ill-fated processors have been plagued by inconsistent and sluggish performance, prompting widespread criticism from reviewers and consumers alike.
The company has since identified eight major issues that led to these performance problems and claims to have implemented fixes via Windows updates, game patches, and motherboard BIOS updates. The updates aim to improve performance by up to 30%.
The first update, released as Windows 11 update KB5044384, tackles two critical issues. Firstly, it optimizes processor power management in Windows to ensure better CPU frequency, core parking, C-State latency, and memory latency. Intel estimates that this fix alone could boost performance by anywhere from 6% to 30%.
Additionally, the update addresses a problem with its Application Performance Optimizer (APO), which failed to prioritize game threads on higher-performing cores, leading to subpar gaming performance. This issue has also been resolved in the KB5044384 update.
Further updates are forthcoming, with new BIOS versions expected in January that will provide additional performance enhancements. These updates will not only improve overall system performance but also address issues like PCIe resizable BAR and compute tile ring frequency, which may have been misconfigured on some motherboards.
To get these updates, users can visit the support page of their specific motherboard model to obtain the latest BIOS versions. It’s crucial to note that January’s updates will include microcode update 0x114, Intel CSME Firmware Kit 19.0.0.1854v2, and Windows 11 26100.2314 or newer.
While the company has been criticized for its initial performance issues, these free updates demonstrate a commitment to rectifying the situation and providing a better experience for users.
