New Jersey Is Looking To This Tiny Startup To Help Detect Mystery Drones
The state of New Jersey is looking to a small startup from the Netherlands to help detect the mysterious drones that have been spotted in various parts of the eastern United States. Robin Radar, which had an operating profit of just under $20 million in 2023, has offered its expertise to aid in the detection and tracking of these unidentified flying objects.
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) recently brought up Robin Radar’s name during a press conference, suggesting that the company’s technology could be used to address the recent reports of mysterious drones flying over New Jersey, New York, and other parts of the East Coast. The sightings have sparked panic and conspiracy theories among some sections of society.
Robin Radar is an innovative company that uses radar systems to detect birds as well as drones. Its micro-doppler technique is designed to identify the distinctive motion of a bird’s wings or a drone’s blades. This unique approach provides 360-degree coverage with full 3D visualization and real-time data on up to 3,000 targets.
According to the company CEO, Siete Hamminga, this technology has significant potential for use in policing, private security, sporting events, and critical infrastructure protection. While it’s unclear how Sen. Schumer became aware of Robin Radar’s expertise, it may have been through a recent meeting between representatives from one of its partners, Dedrone, and the New Jersey State Police.
Dedrone is a subsidiary of Axon, which dominates the American law enforcement market by selling body-worn cameras to tasers, as well as drone detection software platforms that integrate with physical radars made by companies like Robin Radar.
