Sam Altman disputes Marc Andreessen’s description of AI meetings with Biden administration
Famed investor and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has disputed Marc Andreessen’s recent comments on his alleged meetings with the Biden administration regarding AI regulations. In a podcast this week, Altman expressed skepticism over Andreessen’s claims that administration officials aimed to control the development and distribution of artificial intelligence by working closely with a select few large companies.
Andreessen, who did not name OpenAI specifically but implied it would be one of the favored companies, claimed that these officials sought to stifle innovation through burdensome regulations. However, Altman countered this notion in his podcast interview, stating that his own experiences during meetings with the administration did not match Andreessen’s description.
“We were in a room with them, and other companies, as well as the administration,” Altman said, “but never like, ‘Here’s our conspiracy theory, we’re going to make it so only a few companies can build AI and then you have to do what we say.’ Never anything like that.”
It is unclear why Andreessen made these claims or whether he was misinformed about the administration’s intentions. However, Altman’s denial of these allegations casts doubt on Andreessen’s version of events.
Regardless, it appears that both Andreessen and Altman are moving on from their perceived differences with the Biden administration. According to recent reports, both investors have donated millions to Trump’s inaugural fund.
