Today’s NYT Mini Crossword Clues And Answers For Monday, December 23
The NYT Mini crossword is a quick and fun way to pass the time each day. This daily distraction usually takes no more than a minute to complete, but sometimes it may take a bit longer if you get stuck on a particular clue. To help you avoid getting held up and ruining your flow, we have provided today’s answers (spoilers ahead, of course).
The Mini crossword is a simplified version of the newspaper’s larger and long-running crossword puzzle. It typically consists of between three and five clues in each direction on a five by five grid. However, some days may feature larger puzzles, especially on weekends.
What sets the NYT Mini apart from its more extensive sibling is that it is free to play on the New York Times website or NYT Games app. On the other hand, you will need an NYT Games subscription to access previous puzzles in the archives.
As a result of this, the NYT Mini crossword is an excellent way to get your daily dose of wordplay without committing fully to the full-sized puzzle.
Here are today’s answers:
ACROSS
1) Character who’s blue in the face? – SMURF
6) Mideast country that juts out from Saudi Arabia – QATAR
7) Loosen, as a knot – UNTIE
8) Author’s negotiator – AGENT
9) Labourite’s rival, in British politics – TORY DOWN
1) What catchers do behind home plate … or an adjective that might describe their physique – SQUAT
2) Tropical fruit in a sweet salsa – MANGO
3) Say aloud – UTTER
4) Like stereotypical weather in the Pacific Northwest – RAINY
5) Bar on a guitar’s neck – FRET
This was an unusually quick solve for me, as I didn’t encounter any clues that significantly tripped me up. The first clue, for example, seemed obvious once I saw it, and similarly with the catcher’s one, which made it easy to arrive at Squat.
I also must admit that my limited knowledge of British politics came in handy with the Labourite’s rival clue, as knowing the word Tory was all I needed to solve this particular puzzle.
