Sky Rolls Out Latest Feature Upgrade For Its Glass TVs And Stream Boxes — Including AirPlay Support
In a move aimed at further enhancing the viewing experience for its subscribers, Sky has announced a new round of feature upgrades for both Sky Glass TVs and Sky Stream boxes. The highly anticipated update brings several major improvements to both platforms.
Firstly, Sky has finally added support for Apple’s AirPlay technology on its Glass TVs. This means that users will be able to easily stream videos, photos, music, and more from their iPhones, iPads or Mac computers directly onto the TV using this feature. For many subscribers, this is a long-awaited development, as it was seen as an anomaly that Sky Glass couldn’t seamlessly integrate with Apple devices like other premium TVs on the market.
The new feature list doesn’t stop there, however. Another significant improvement is the revamped Skip Ads feature. With this upgrade, users can now skip through ads with just one click thanks to a dedicated button on their remote control. In addition, subscribers will have the option to automatically start playing the next episode of a TV series after the current one has finished, saving valuable time.
Furthermore, Sky’s latest update also addresses another long-standing user request: the ability to easily access subsequent episodes in a series without having to navigate through menus or use the search function. Users can now simply watch an episode and then immediately start the next one, further streamlining their viewing experience.
In related news, subscribers will be able to add actors to their playlist on the Sky Glass or Stream remote control. This is achieved by highlighting a favorite actor during playback and then adding them to the ‘People’ rail within the personalized playlist menu. With this feature, users can instantly access any films or shows featuring that specific actor.
Additionally, the update includes an enhanced Favorite Channel system. Users will now be able to pin their favorite channels directly onto the Sky Glass or Stream home screen and allocate a unique channel number on their remote control. Alternatively, they can simply refresh their favorites by tapping the ‘refresh’ button, which automatically updates with the channels that have been most frequently watched.
To further personalize the viewing experience, Sky has also introduced new character avatars for users to choose from when creating their individual profiles. These avatars will be available in various formats, including Jamie Redknapp and Nicolas Galitzine, offering more mature options alongside existing kid-friendly choices such as Paw Patrol and Peppa Pig.
Lastly, Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers can rejoice, as Sky has enabled HD audio streaming through the Amazon Music app on both Glass TVs and Stream boxes. This represents a significant upgrade from previous standard definition streams, doubling the quality of the playback.
The collective impact of these upgrades is aimed at solidifying Sky’s position in the competitive market by providing an unmatched level of personalization, entertainment options and functionality to its subscribers.
