Kash Patel Is the Hero QAnon Has Been Waiting For
Kash Patel, a former Trump administration official and close ally of Donald Trump, is being pushed by some as a potential hero for the QAnon conspiracy theory. Despite his deep links to the movement, Patel is reportedly in talks with senators on Capitol Hill to lead the FBI, the very agency that has repeatedly warned about the threats posed by those inspired by QAnon.
For many people whose loved ones have fallen down the rabbit hole of QAnon, the prospect of Patel running the FBI is a disturbing one. They worry that his leadership will only further entrench the movement’s grip on their family members and friends.
“My Q cousin believes that Patel will release the Epstein island list,” says a member of the QAnon Casualties subreddit, who asked not to be named. “And afterward everyone will be arrested, tried and executed. She believes they will be public figures such as Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks, and Hunter Biden. She’s really looking forward to January. She’s also on the lookout for raw milk.”
QAnon believers like Patel have been instrumental in spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories about everything from pedophilia rings to deep state plots. The movement has been linked to violent acts of terrorism and political violence.
It remains to be seen whether senators will choose to ignore Patel’s connections to QAnon or the FBI’s warnings about the group’s dangers. For those whose loved ones have been impacted by the conspiracy theory, however, the thought of Patel leading the agency that is supposed to protect them from QAnon-inspired threats is a terrifying prospect.
As one member of the subreddit noted, “I just want people to remember that there are real human beings on the other side of this rabbit hole. We’re not just talking about ‘believers’ or ‘followers.’ These are our moms, dads, uncles, aunts, friends, and family members who have lost their way. Let’s work together to pull them back from the brink.”
For now, it seems that Patel is doing everything in his power to convince senators on Capitol Hill to overlook his ties to QAnon.
