Meta is Reportedly Adding Displays to Its Ray-Ban Smart Glasses
In a recent report by Financial Times, it appears that Meta is gearing up to incorporate screens into its popular line of Ray-Ban smart glasses. These displays could potentially make an appearance in a future iteration of the device as early as the second half of 2025.
Sources close to Meta’s plans suggest that the screens will be relatively small and will likely be used to display notifications or responses from Meta’s AI virtual assistant. It is highly unlikely that the company would be planning to turn these glasses into a full-fledged mixed-reality device at this point, as they have already unveiled their Orion AR glasses for that purpose.
The Ray-Ban smart glasses have been an unexpected success for Meta, and it’s easy to see why. They look great and perform admirably well. The current model comes equipped with in-ear speakers, cameras, microphones, and access to Meta’s virtual assistant. I appreciate the simplicity of the current design, particularly when taking photos or videos. My hope is that these potential screens do not compromise on this simplicity and do not come at the expense of improvements to the camera system. The Ray-Ban glasses have become an excellent tool for snapping quick photos of pets, eliminating the need to fumble for a phone in the process.
It’s worth noting that I’ve had issues trying to get my furry friends to remain still long enough to take a photo with my phone. Those adorable critters just won’t cooperate! The Ray-Bans have been a game-changer in this regard, allowing me to capture those special moments without any hassle.
