OpenAI ‘Considered’ Building a Humanoid Robot: Report
According to The Information, OpenAI has recently explored the possibility of developing its own humanoid robot. This revelation comes from two sources with direct knowledge of the conversations.
The information technology company has been involved in the robotics space for some time now, primarily through financial backing. It has invested in firms such as Figure and 1X, in addition to General Purpose AI firm Physical Intelligence. In 2021, OpenAI abandoned its ambitions in the field after quietly closing its robotics division.
However, it seems that a lot can change over the course of three years. With advancements in both hardware and the AI systems that power them, the reformed OpenAI robotics division would have to make up for lost time in an already competitive young category.
OpenAI is well-known for its popular language model, ChatGPT.
