Russia has made a significant move in the crypto space by banning cryptocurrency mining in several key regions. This decision comes amid ongoing discussions about the creation of Bitcoin reserves around the world.
Effective January 1, 2025, the ban will come into effect and remain in place for six years until March 15, 2031. This restriction is part of a larger effort to address regional energy demands while also addressing disparities in electricity pricing.
The regions affected by this decision include Dagestan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia, Chechnya, the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as the Zaporizhia and Kherson regions. In addition, temporary restrictions will be imposed on certain areas during peak energy demand periods.
These areas include Irkutsk region, Buryatia, and the Trans-Baikal Territory.
The reasons behind this decision are reportedly related to concerns over regional energy demands and pricing disparities. Energy is a valuable resource in Russia, but not all regions have access to the same resources or pricing structures.
