Bluesky is testing a trending topics feature
Bluesky, the social network with over 25 million users, has announced that it is currently testing a new trending topics feature. The feature allows users to see the most popular and relevant content on the platform in real-time.
According to TechCrunch, Bluesky will be displaying trending topics both on desktop and mobile apps for all users across the world. On the desktop version of the app, these topics can be accessed via a right sidebar, while on the mobile app, users need to tap on the search button to view them.
Notably, the trending topics feature is currently only available in English. However, users have the option to disable this feature altogether by going into Settings > Content and Media and unchecking the “Enable trending topics” box.
Bluesky has also emphasized that it will not be showing content that users have explicitly muted or flagged as unwanted. This means that if a user has previously opted to hide certain words or phrases, they will not appear in the trending topics feed.
While this is just the first iteration of the feature, Bluesky has stated its intention to improve and refine it further based on user feedback.
It’s worth noting that third-party clients like Greysky had already implemented a similar trending topics feature earlier this year. Meanwhile, rival social network Threads began testing the feature in Japan back in October and rolled it out to all U.S. users in March.
