North Carolina family who lost home to Hurricane Helene gifted camper by EmergencyRV
A devastating blow was turned into a life-changing gift for two families in North Carolina who were affected by Hurricane Helene. Two individuals, a family of four and a Vietnam veteran, received brand new campers from the non-profit organization EmergencyRV on Christmas Day.
The first recipient is the Penley family from Boone, North Carolina, who lost everything during the storm. The family of four had just been discharged from the hospital after welcoming their second child when they were left homeless due to Hurricane Helene’s destruction. Thanks to the generosity of EmergencyRV, they will now have a safe and clean place to call home.
The second individual is Timothy McCord, a 70-year-old Marine Corps veteran who served in Vietnam. Unfortunately, his own camper suffered severe damage at the hands of the hurricane, including ripped off roofing that left him dealing with leaks and other issues despite living there. EmergencyRV stepped in to provide him with a brand new home.
Both families were given their campers completely free of charge, complete with a clean title in their name, as part of EmergencyRV’s mission to provide housing for those displaced by natural disasters.
The organization has been busy since Hurricane Helene ripped through the Carolinas, Georgia, and Tennessee in late September, gifting 77 campers to those affected. Despite having limited resources, they prioritize serving veterans and first responders but have also helped families who lost their homes or suffered severe damage from the storm.
EmergencyRV was founded by Woody Faircloth and his then 6-year-old daughter in response to the deadly Camp Fire in Paradise, California. Their initial goal was to raise enough money to gift one family an RV, but they were able to do much more than that and have since donated hundreds of RVs to those affected by wildfires and other natural disasters.
In addition to providing housing, EmergencyRV also ensures that the families who receive their assistance are given a legal and safe place to park their new home before gifting it.
