See A ‘Planetary Parade’ Tonight — With Must-See Dates For 2025
This month, six planets are aligning in the sky, a rare occurrence that allows us to witness a spectacular ‘planetary parade’. Do not miss this unique opportunity to gaze at Jupiter, Mars and Venus shining brightly after dark, accompanied by Saturn, Neptune and Mercury.
To fully appreciate this celestial display, look west as soon as it gets dark. You will be able to see Venus and Saturn, while Jupiter is visible in the east. However, do note that Venus may have sunk below the horizon by the time Mars appears below Jupiter. On the other hand, Uranus and Neptune are not visible to the naked eye.
For those eager to witness this ‘planetary parade’ again, there are two more opportunities coming up in 2025. In January, we can see Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Venus, Neptune, and Saturn aligned once more. Take note of January 21st as a good time to look in the evening, when the moon reaches its Last Quarter phase, rising at midnight.
March 2025 also holds another special opportunity for stargazers. On March 8th, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Venus, Neptune and Saturn will be joined by Mercury, creating an even more breathtaking view of our planetary system. Take note that Mercury’s visibility is fleeting, as it sinks quickly after appearing.
To make the most out of this experience, ensure you position yourself in a location with minimal light pollution for the best viewing conditions. Wishing you clear skies and wide eyes to fully appreciate this extraordinary ‘planetary parade’!
