Montenegro’s Justice Minister Confirms Do Kwon Will Be Extradited to the United States
In a recent statement, Montenegro’s Justice Minister Bojan Bozovic has confirmed that Do Kwon, co-founder of Terraform Labs, will be extradited to the United States. This decision follows a Supreme Court ruling and legal evaluation by the Ministry.
According to the Ministry of Justice, they thoroughly examined all facts and circumstances surrounding the case, including the severity of the crimes, jurisdiction of the offenses, and extradition requests. In their assessment, the US request was deemed more favorable than South Korea’s extradition bid.
Do Kwon has been arrested in March 2023 at Podgorica Airport while attempting to travel to Dubai using forged passports. He served a four-month prison sentence in Montenegro for document forgery. This latest development stems from investigations into the collapse of TerraUSD and Luna in May 2022, which erased $40 billion from the crypto market and led to widespread bankruptcies.
US authorities have accused Kwon of misleading investors and believe he is hiding substantial assets. Following his prison term, Kwon was transferred to Montenegro’s Shelter for Foreigners, where he awaits extradition arrangements.
This development marks a significant turn in the ongoing legal battle surrounding Do Kwon’s fate.
