Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be undergoing a significant surgical procedure, as he has been diagnosed with a urinary tract infection (UTI) and is scheduled for prostate removal surgery on Sunday.
The announcement was made by Netanyahu’s office, citing the cause of his condition as a benign enlargement of his prostate. The diagnosis comes at a tumultuous time for Netanyahu, as he is simultaneously navigating multiple conflicts across the Middle East and facing personal legal issues within Israel.
As Prime Minister, Netanyahu is currently leading Israel in a series of military actions against Iran and its proxy terrorist organizations, including the recent airstrikes targeting the Houthi rebels in Yemen. The attacks follow repeated missile and drone strikes by the Houthis on Israeli territory and their attempts to enforce an embargo on the Jewish State through sea-based attacks.
In addition to his national security duties, Netanyahu is also embroiled in a corruption trial, which began in 2020. Prosecutors have accused him of exchanging regulatory favors for favorable media coverage, resulting from under-the-table dealings with major media moguls. So far, over 140 witnesses have testified in the trial, including high-profile figures such as former prime ministers and security officials.
Netanyahu’s office has not provided any further information regarding his health or the upcoming surgery.
