Warning Issued For Meta Quest 3, Quest 2 And Quest 3S Owners
Meta has issued a critical software update issue affecting its Quest 3, Quest 2 and Quest 3S VR headsets. Reports have emerged that some users are unable to boot up their devices properly due to the bug.
In a statement released by Meta, it was confirmed that a software glitch had caused a significant number of headsets to become unresponsive and unable to start up correctly. The issue has reportedly been widespread enough for the company to roll out an emergency patch in order to resolve the problem.
“We’ve discovered a software update issue that caused some Quest 2/3/3S headsets to be unresponsive and unable to start up correctly,” Meta’s statement read. “We are actively working on resolving the issue for all users, but in most cases, you are now able to use your device normally.”
The company has urged affected users to reach out to their support team for assistance, with Quest 2 or 3 owners being told to contact them directly. Meanwhile, Quest 3S owners have been instructed to login to their Meta account on the Help Center website to check if their device is impacted by the issue.
It’s worth noting that users who have not used their headset in a while are more likely to encounter this issue when trying to update it. According to reports from the Meta Quest forums, the bug arises during the software update process and results in the headset becoming unresponsive.
Until further notice, it may be advisable for users with affected devices to hold off on attempting any updates until the issue is fully resolved by Meta’s engineers. This is particularly concerning for those whose headsets are no longer under warranty, as they could potentially be left facing a significant repair bill or costly replacement.
One user who was directly impacted by the issue reported being offered only a small discount on a new headset when their device stopped working, leaving them to foot the bill.
