UFC Releases Contender Series Winner After Loss In Short-Notice Fight
James Llontop, a winner from the UFC Contender Series in September 2023, has been released by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) following a loss in his latest outing. This decision comes as a result of Llontop’s dismal performance in the octagon.
Llontop stepped into the ring against Mauricio Ruffy at UFC 309 in New York City last November. Despite knowing that this would be his third consecutive fight, and one that could potentially decide his future with the organization, he took the short notice bout to save his job. It seems that it was not enough, as he has been let go by the UFC.
This decision is likely a result of Llontop’s underwhelming performance in his previous two fights. In September 2022, he missed weight by 1.5 pounds before losing via first-round submission to opponent Chris Curtis. Four months later, he lost a closely contested split decision to Viacheslav Borshchev.
It seems that these losses have taken their toll on Llontop’s career with the UFC. Despite his toughness and ability to take a punch, he appears to lack in conditioning and grappling skills. It is unclear whether or not Llontop will return to the organization in the future, but for now, it seems that his time has come to an end.
In response to this news, many fans have taken to social media to express their disappointment at the decision to release Llontop from the UFC roster.
