LG’s Lightweight Gram Laptops Get New Intel Chips and Offline AI Features
LG has just announced significant updates to its ultra-lightweight Gram laptop lineup, including the integration of cloud-based and on-device AI-powered features. The company’s flagship models, the Gram Pro laptops, will now boast advanced offline capabilities that can be used even without an internet connection.
The 16-inch Gram Pro model, which is set to become the first Copilot Plus PC in the LG Gram lineup, is particularly noteworthy as it will utilize Intel’s Lunar Lake Core Ultra V-Series processors. On the other hand, the 17-inch Gram Pro and 16-inch 2-in-1 versions will run on Intel’s Arrow Lake Core Ultra H-Series processors.
In terms of specifications, all three LG Gram Pro laptops – including the 2-in-1 model – will be available with 2,560 x 1,600 displays, up to 32GB of LPDDR5X memory, and storage capacity of up to 2TB Gen4 NVMe SSDs. The 16-inch Gram Pro and 16-inch LG Gram Pro 2-in-1 will come equipped with Intel Arc GPUs, while the 17-inch Gram Pro will instead feature an Nvidia GeForce RTX4050 graphics card.
One notable new addition is a range of AI-powered features that can be used offline. The laptops will support Gram Chat On-Device, which employs a “small language model derived from LG AI Research’s EXAONE large language model.” This technology enables users to quickly revisit recently accessed web pages, documents, videos, and audio files using Time Travel.
Furthermore, the new Gram lineup includes offline features like Gram Chat Cloud. Powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4o, this capability responds to user inquiries utilizing “vast web-based datasets for detailed and comprehensive responses” while integrating with calendar and email services. However, it requires an active internet connection and will only be free for the first year.
In addition to these AI-enhanced features, all of the new Gram laptops also support LG’s Gram Link 2.0. This functionality streamlines document and file sharing with other PCs and iOS or Android-based smartphones while enabling users to answer incoming phone calls directly on their laptop without having to switch devices temporarily.
LG is set to bring its entry-level Gram Book into the US market next year, powered by an Intel Core i5 processor, a 15.6-inch 60Hz full HD display, a 720p webcam, and configurations of up to 1TB SSD storage and 16GB DDR4 memory.
It seems that LG is committed to providing its customers with more advanced AI capabilities and seamless connectivity options as part of its ongoing efforts to stay ahead in the competitive laptop market.
