Philips has announced a significant upgrade to its palm recognition smart lock technology, set to debut at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2025. The innovative device now features integrated video monitoring capabilities, allowing users to see who is at the door without requiring a separate smart camera.
The enhanced security feature, which will be showcased at CES 2025, marks a significant advancement in the field of biometric authentication and home automation. The company’s existing palm-recognition smart lock technology, already available on the market, utilizes sensors that analyze the vein patterns in an individual’s hand, eliminating the need for physical contact. This approach provides enhanced security and convenience, as users can open their door without having to touch or interact with any surfaces.
The addition of video monitoring capabilities will enable users to see who is at the door, providing a more comprehensive smart home experience. This integration aims to enhance user response times and streamline management through a single app. The device’s ability to recognize palm veins, as well as provide video feed, sets a new standard for innovative home automation.
The Philips 5000 Series Video Palm Recognition Smart Lock will also support other authentication methods, including PIN codes, smartphone apps, voice commands via Google Home or Amazon Alexa smart assistants, and traditional key-based access. Additionally, the device can double up as a doorbell, providing an all-in-one solution for homeowners.
Philips has not disclosed pricing information at this time, but it’s expected to be available in the second half of 2025. It remains unclear if Apple HomeKit support will be included in the new product, although current models do not offer this integration.
While no details on power requirements have been released, the device’s advanced technology and feature-rich design make it an ideal candidate for wireless charging capabilities using Wi-Charge technology, a feature showcased by Alfred in their smart lock solution.
