Today’s Wordle #1292 Hints, Clues And Answer For Wednesday, January 1st
As we usher in the new year with a fresh start, today’s Wordle puzzle brings its own unique set of challenges. The game is heating up, and so are my expectations! It’s fitting that we kick off this new chapter with an intriguing riddle.
The initial hint for today’s puzzle reads: “It cannot be seen, cannot be felt, Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt. It lies behind stars and under hills, And empty holes it fills. It comes out first and follows after, Ends life, kills laughter.”
With this enigmatic opening, I began my journey by trying the word “YEARS” as a starting point. Although not entirely successful, it did provide me with a green box. The game was far from over, though, as 54 words remained to be uncovered.
I took a chance and attempted the word “MERIT,” which effectively reduced the options to a mere 7. I then landed on my third – and final – attempt, “NERVE.” To my surprise and delight, it emerged victorious!
Competitive Wordle enthusiasts can rest assured that this puzzle will test their mettle. The scoring system remains unchanged: guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points. If you best your opponent, you gain 1 point. In the event of a tie, you earn 0 points, while losing to your rival will result in a -1 point deduction.
To better grasp the etymology behind today’s solution, let’s delve into the world of linguistics. The term “nerve” originates from the Latin nervus, signifying “sinew” or “tendon,” which in turn referred to strength, vigor, and the physical cords within our bodies. This concept further evolved from the Greek neuron (νεῦρον), implying “sinew, tendon, or cord” before eventually taking on a more anatomical meaning.
The metaphorical association of nerve with courage or boldness emerged during the 18th century. This development stemmed from the connection between physical strength and inner resilience. With this newfound understanding, we can appreciate the intricate dance between language and our perception of reality.
