NYT ‘Connections’ Hints and Answers for Saturday, December 14
In today’s game of Connections, the hints were a mixed bag. I found it challenging to get started with the yellow group — fish (FLUKE, MULLET, SOLE, TANG) because I wasn’t entirely sure if MULLET and TANG were actually types of fish. However, after confirming that FLUKE and SOLE are indeed fish, I went ahead and assembled the group.
The green group — words in an auction-ending phrase (GOING, ONCE, TWICE, SOLD) presented a problem because the game ordered the words incorrectly after submission. Thankfully, I was able to rectify this mistake by rearranging the list in my mind before moving on to the next set of words.
Moving on to the blue group — global currencies (POUND, REAL, SOL, YUAN), I initially had some doubts about SOL belonging due to its unfamiliarity as a currency. However, research revealed that it is indeed Peru’s official currency. This surprising discovery allowed me to complete the group and proceed with confidence.
Lastly, the purple group — words before “cup” (BUTTER, DIVE, SOLO, WORLD) took some time to grasp because I didn’t immediately make the connection. Nevertheless, once I did, it became blindingly obvious in hindsight.
The result of this game is four perfect scores for me, a welcome change after losing three games in a row.
