New Estimates Have PS5 Beating Xbox Over 5-To-1 In Sales For November
Despite the recent marketing push to blur the lines between console and cloud gaming, it appears that gamers are still opting for physical hardware from Sony over Microsoft’s offerings. New sales estimates from VGChartz indicate that the PlayStation 5 (PS5) has dominated in sales, with a significant margin of victory over Xbox Series consoles.
According to the data, the PS5 outsold Xbox by a staggering 5:1 ratio in November alone, with Sony racking up an impressive 4.1 million console sales compared to Microsoft’s paltry 767,000 units moved. The Nintendo Switch, meanwhile, managed to shift 1.7 million consoles during the same period.
This stark contrast in sales figures comes as a blow to Xbox, which had been hoping to gain traction with its “everything is an Xbox” marketing campaign. However, it seems that this strategy has not yet borne fruit, at least not in terms of hardware sales.
It’s worth noting that these numbers do not account for digital game sales or subscription-based services like Xbox Game Pass. While Xbox may be raking in revenue through its streaming and subscription offerings, the fact remains that Sony has a commanding lead when it comes to actual console sales.
The PS5’s strong performance can likely be attributed to its continued exclusivity of popular titles such as Call of Duty, which have traditionally driven hardware sales for Sony. Additionally, the company’s commitment to supporting cross-platform play with PC and other devices may also be appealing to gamers seeking a more seamless gaming experience across multiple platforms.
In contrast, Xbox’s focus on cloud gaming and subscription services has led to a decline in console sales. While this shift in strategy may pay off in the long run, it appears that many gamers are still unwilling to abandon traditional hardware for a purely digital experience.
As we look ahead to future console generations, it will be interesting to see if Xbox can regroup and reorient its approach to better compete with Sony’s dominant sales. For now, however, the PS5 remains the clear winner in terms of hardware sales.
