Warner Bros. Is Pretty Sure Barbie 2 Isn’t Happening Yet
Despite the massive success of the 2023 film adaptation of Barbie, it seems that any hopes for a sequel are being quickly dashed.
According to multiple sources, including Warner Bros. and director Greta Gerwig’s representatives, reports claiming a sequel is in the works are nothing more than unfounded rumors. “There is no legitimacy to this reporting,” said Gerwig’s rep when asked about the matter.
This denial was backed up by Warner Bros., with a representative stating that the initial report from The Hollywood Reporter was simply inaccurate. While it would be tempting to speculate about what kind of story could potentially be explored in a Barbie 2, given the immense popularity and box office success of the original, it appears that such speculation will have to wait for now.
It’s worth noting that Gerwig herself has already expressed some reservations about making a sequel, citing the abundance of material generated during the writing of the original script. Whatever the case may be, fans of the franchise can rest easy knowing that there is no concrete evidence supporting the notion of Barbie 2 being in development at this time.
In related news, Ryan Gosling has refused to comment on whether he will be reprising his role as Ken in any potential sequel, leaving fans to continue speculating about the future of their beloved characters.
