Tupac Shakur Murder Case: Defense Seeks Dismissal Over ‘Egregious’ Constitutional Violations
The defense team representing the suspects in the 1996 murder case of iconic rapper Tupac Shakur has filed a motion to dismiss the charges, citing “egregious” constitutional violations.
According to reports, the lawyers argue that the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and the District Attorney’s Office failed to properly investigate the crime and have withheld crucial evidence from the defense. The move comes after a judge ruled that certain evidence could not be used in the trial due to procedural errors.
The motion asserts that the LAPD’s failure to collect and preserve potential evidence at the time of the murder, as well as allegations of witness intimidation and tampering with key witnesses’ statements, have severely compromised the ability for the defense to effectively represent their clients. The lawyers are seeking a dismissal of the charges or a new trial.
The case has been ongoing for over two decades, with numerous setbacks and controversies along the way. In 2014, the California Court of Appeal ruled that the original conviction was flawed due to prosecutorial misconduct.
Tupac Shakur’s murder remains one of the most infamous unsolved crimes in music history.
