MAUREEN CALLAHAN: Fire killed my grandmother and nearly me too. I know why Los Angeles must never forgive the useless liberals who sleepwalked into this inferno
As the flames engulf my beloved Pacific Palisades neighborhood, I am forced to confront a painful truth: my own family’s history with fire. My grandmother perished in a devastating blaze decades ago, and if not for the bravery of our heroic firefighters, I would have likely joined her in the fiery depths.
I share this personal tragedy with you because it is precisely why Los Angeles must never forgive the useless liberals who sleepwalked into this inferno. Their incompetence is not just a crisis; it’s a catastrophe. It’s a reminder that when calamity strikes, the city’s self-proclaimed “leaders” are nowhere to be found.
As I watch my home go up in flames, I am reminded of the countless times our local government promised action on wildfires but delivered nothing but empty rhetoric. The Pacific Palisades is burning because of their negligence, and now it’s too late for apologies.
The liberal elites who run this city are more concerned with virtue-signaling and promoting their own woke agendas than actually doing what needs to be done to protect the people they claim to serve. They’ve been warned time and again about the dangers of wildfires, but they chose to ignore the warnings.
I’ve seen firsthand how these so-called “leaders” abandon the people in times of need. When disaster strikes, they flee, leaving behind a trail of destruction and devastation. My grandmother’s death was a direct result of their failure to act. Today, I fear it could be me or any other resident who has been betrayed by our city’s incompetence.
As the flames engulf my neighborhood, I am filled with anger and disgust at those responsible for this catastrophe. The useless liberals must never forgive themselves for their failures, nor should we forget them in this moment of crisis.
It’s time to hold accountable those who have put us all in harm’s way.
