Andy Muschietti Reveals His Dream 3-Season Plan for It: Welcome to Derry
After the massive success of It: Chapter Two, fans have been eagerly waiting for any updates on a potential third installment in the franchise. And finally, Andy Muschietti has given us some insight into his vision for the next chapter.
In an exclusive interview with io9, Muschietti revealed that he has always envisioned a three-season story arc for It: Welcome to Derry, a prequel series exploring the early days of Pennywise and the cursed town.
“I’ve been thinking about this for years,” said Muschietti. “I’ve always seen it as a trilogy. I want to tell the story from start to finish, show how this monster was born and how it became who it is.”
When asked about the possibility of exploring other characters or storylines outside of the main narrative, Muschietti emphasized the importance of staying focused on the core premise.
“Look, I love these characters as much as anyone else,” he admitted. “But if we start to dilute the focus, we risk losing what makes this show so unique in the first place – its dark and twisted exploration of childhood trauma.”
Muschietti also revealed that the second season would be a major turning point for the series, marking a significant shift in tone and direction.
“You’ll see things escalate,” he warned. “Things get darker, more intense. The stakes are raised. This is not a show to be watched by anyone under 18, let me tell you.”
As for the final season, Muschietti hinted at a grand-scale conclusion that would wrap up all loose ends and deliver a satisfying payoff.
“I want it to end with something that’s both haunting and hopeful,” he said. “I think it’s essential to leave viewers with a lasting impression – the kind that lingers long after the credits roll.”
While no official confirmation has been made by HBO, fans are already buzzing with excitement at the prospect of a three-season It: Welcome to Derry saga.
